Privacy Policy
Effective July 4, 2026. Checkers.now is built to be played, not to harvest data. You can enjoy every board and every variant without an account, and we collect only what is genuinely needed to run the site.
This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, and what we never do. If anything here is unclear, please get in touch.
Information we collect
- Nothing, to play as a guest. Playing against the computer or a friend requires no account and no personal information.
- Your Google account, if you sign in. Sign-in uses Google only. When you choose to sign in, Google shares your verified email address and display name with us. We do not receive or store your Google password.
- Contact messages. If you use the contact form, we store the name, email and message you send so we can reply.
- Game data in your browser. Your progress, statistics and display settings are stored locally in your browser (localStorage), not on our servers, unless you are signed in.
- Basic server logs. Like most sites, our servers record standard technical information such as IP address and browser type for security and reliability.
How we use your information
We use it only to run and improve the service: to sign you in, to save and sync your record across devices, to show leaderboards, to reply to your messages, and to keep the site secure and working. We do not build advertising profiles.
Cookies and local storage
We use a small number of cookies and browser storage keys - a session cookie when you are signed in, a security token, and local keys that remember your game and settings. Full details are in our Cookie Policy.
Google sign-in
Sign-in is handled through Google's OAuth service. We only ever receive your verified email address and name, and only after you approve it. If your Google email is not verified, we do not create an account. You can revoke access at any time from your Google account settings.
What we do not do
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We do not run intrusive tracking networks. We do not require an account to play. We keep the data footprint of a checkers game as small as a checkers game deserves.
Data retention
Account and leaderboard records are kept while your account is active. Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your request. You may ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time.
Children's privacy
Checkers.now is a family-friendly game suitable for all ages, and it does not require personal information to play. We do not knowingly collect data from children beyond what is described above.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal data we hold about you. Just contact us and we will help.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will change the effective date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
