Does the daily reset?

Yes. A brand new daily opponent appears at midnight UTC. Yesterday's board is gone, so it is worth coming back each day.

Do I need an account for the daily?

No. You can play the daily as a guest and still post a time. Signing in with Google just lets your result follow you across devices.
